Courier Mail Feature - Best horse riding in the southeast

November 2011

Main story:

There's no denying there is a special connection between humans and horses. Nature's most beautiful and noblest animal gives us the opportunity to exercise, be challenged physically, and to enjoy the unhurried pleasures of an earlier uncomplicated time when all that could be seen was vast bush and endless sky. Plus apparently horse riding can burn up to 400 calories an hour and increase core muscle strength by 50 per cent - show me the saddle! - Jessica Jane Sammut looks at the top spots to get a bit horsey.

Feature:

Dalson Park, Slacks Creek - The Brisbane area's longest established Riding School is Dalson Park in Brisbane's south. Open six days a week for groups or private horse riding lessons, horse jumping lessons, fun days, and holiday camps, it is the only centre in the area to offer all-weather day and night classes on a soiltex surface (perfect for learning to ride). You can also learn to care for and saddle the horses, offering a complete experience. You can book in for your own lessons or visit on a Saturday or week day afternoon/evening to watch participants of all ages riding or jumping.

Our indoor arena surface has just been laid with the best riding surface available in the World. Just as used in the Olympics, Capricorn SOILTEX is a mixture of the finest sand and synthetic fibres. This surface increases performance with a unique rebound effect, imparting spring and extension to the horse’s stride whilst minimising concussion to the animals limbs, and adding stability and comfort for riders. Dalson Park leads the way with the first SOILTEX arena surface in Queensland .

Come along, bring your horse or ride ours and feel the Dalson park difference. Along with new fencing, stables and improved spectator facilities, there is no better equestrian centre in the region to care for you and to agist your pony.
